When icebergs melt, and polar ice caps have turned into sea, surfers around the world will be treated to some of the best and most interesting surf breaks. Stonehenge will supply a perfect A-frame peak with nobody out. The Great Wall of China will be the longest left in the world, and Times Square will be the new Surf City USA. American surfers will consider the man-made valleys of Manhattan the new frontier in a sport changed forever.
After weeks of work, my new painting is finished. This is arguably the longest time I’ve spent on one project. I don’t think some of my large wall murals have taken this long to complete.
Created entirely in Photoshop in 2000 back when, aside from basic shapes and lighting, I pretty much drew everything with a mouse. It was very painful at times, but felt much like the same meditation-though-suffering endured with sidewalk chalk art and the poor old fingers. This piece was the cover for the San Diego punk band Lot Thirteen. They didn't have a concept for the cover so they said I could do whatever I wanted. I think I asked them what Lot Thirteen meant and since the real answer didn't invoke anything creative I decided to take it to another galaxy far, far away. ;-) It is obvious where the inspiration here lies.
In this scene the character on far right has created tiny minions in his likeness who do his dirty work, stealing chips from the dude on the left. In the background is a character sucking the life out of another because this is intoxicating to us, I mean them. Can you tell I was still in my youthful angst period?
Arguably my most well known piece of art on the web. The Google Bot Logo was originally created to compete in a contest to redesign the Google logo. This illustration jumped to number one on Digg and created a sudden flood of traffic so large it temporarily shut the server down at a marketing agency where I was previously employed. It won the contest and even caught the attention of people at Google.
This piece is a very popular with the men. It must be the happiness in holding banana that speaks to them so vividly. I had one friend ask to also be painted in this exact pose holding a beer so he could put both pieces in his bathroom.
I was commissioned to draw this piece for a friend from a photo from a National Geographic. She said it was her favorite picture and she had kept it tucked away in her purse for years. I overheard her say that if a fire ever broke out in her house she would grab her kids and this painting. The soft pastels really worked well for this, especially in the sand covering his feet.
