I’ve just finished this new photo of the beautiful Ponte Vecchio (old bridge) in Florence, Italy. The Ponte Vecchio was first written about in 996 AD, and has been destroyed by floods several times. It was re-built in 1117, and 1345, but the two central supports remain from 1117. The Ponte Vecchio is the only bridge in Florence not destroyed by Germans during their retreat of August 4, 1944. The bridge has always hosted shops and merchants and is recently littered with padlocks. A tradition states that when two lovers lock a padlock to the Ponte Vecchio and throw the key in to the river, they are bonded forever.
